825 God’s Sole Exhortation Is to Stand Witness
Intro
God is always fretting over you:
What if you’d be left on your own?
Verse 1
Would you really be better than you are today?
Does your childish stature not make you anxious?
Can you truly be like the Israelites,
loyal to God alone at all times?
What’s revealed in you is not the impishness of children,
who have strayed from their parents, unable to see them,
but the beastly nature that comes from animals
which are just out of reach of the whip.
Pre-chorus 1
You should know your nature,
which is also the weakness that you share.
It is a common ailment to you all.
Chorus
God’s only request of you today
is that you stand firm in witness.
Do not, under any circumstance,
give your old ways a chance.
The most important thing
is to bear testimony to Him;
that is the heart of God’s work.
Verse 2
Do accept His words just as Mary did Jehovah’s.
He gave her a revelation that came inside a dream.
She chose to believe Him and then tried to obey.
Only this qualifies as being chaste.
You’ve heard His words the most, you are most blessed by Him.
All His precious possessions God has given you.
Yet you are no Israelite, you are worlds apart.
But you’ve received much more compared to them.
Pre-chorus 2
They await God desperately,
while you are passing pleasant days with Him,
and you are sharing in His bounty.
Bridge
What gives you the right to squabble with God
and demand possessions?
What have you not gained?
God gives you so much but what do you give Him?
Heartbreak and sadness and anxiety.
You are so repugnant, yet to be pitied.
So God has to hold back all His anger,
voicing His objections again and again.
Chorus
God’s only request of you today
is that you stand firm in witness.
Do not, under any circumstance,
give your old ways a chance.
The most important thing
is to bear testimony to Him;
that is the heart of God’s work.
