Maybe you have walked the path of believing in God for not just one or two years. Over these years of life, maybe you have suffered a lot, maybe you have not suffered but have received much grace, or maybe you have not suffered or received grace but have lived a very common life. In any case, you are one who follows God. Then let’s have a fellowship about the matter of following God. But I want to remind everyone who reads these words: All God’s words are directed at everyone who acknowledges God and at everyone who follows God, and they are not directed at all people, including those who acknowledge God and those who do not. If you think that God speaks to the public and to the world, then God’s words will have no effect on you. So, you should bear all the words in your heart; do not always put yourself outside these words. Anyhow, let’s talk about the matters of our family!
Now you all should understand the true meaning of belief in God. The inner meaning of belief in God, of which I spoke to you before, all had to do with your entering in on the positive side. But today it will be different. I will dissect the substance of your belief in God. Of course, this is to lead you from the negative side. If I do not do so, you will never know your true self and will forever boast about your devoutness and your faithfulness. It can be said that if I do not dig out your ugly self in your innermost being, every one of you will put the crown on your head and credit all the glory to yourself. Your arrogant and self-conceited nature drives you to rebel against your conscience, to disobey and resist Christ, and to show your ugly face, exposing your intents, notions, extravagant desires, and greedy eyes to the light. Yet you repeatedly shout that you will be zealous for Christ’s work all your life, and you keep speaking and repeat the truths that Christ has spoken long ago. These are your “belief,” and these are your “belief without any mixture.” I have always been very strict with people. If your faithfulness is with intents and conditions, I would rather not accept your so-called faithfulness, because I loathe people’s cheating me with their intents and extorting from me with their conditions. I only hope that people can be utterly faithful to me and do everything only for the sake of the word “belief” and for proving the word “belief.” I hate your speaking sweet words to win my pleasure; because I always treat you with sincerity, I hope that you can treat me with true belief. When “belief” is mentioned, many people may think: I follow God just because of having “belief”; otherwise, I would not endure such sufferings. Then let me ask you: You believe in God’s existence, but why do you never fear God? You believe in God’s existence, but why do you not at all have a heart of dreading God? You acknowledge that Christ is God’s incarnated flesh, but why do you take a scornful attitude toward him? Why do you act irreverently before him? Why do you judge him openly? Why do you always pry into his ways? Why do you not obey his arrangements? Why do you not take his words as principles in doing things? Why do you extort and steal his offerings? Why do you speak in the position of Christ? Why do you judge the right and wrong of his work and word? Why do you dare to blaspheme him behind his back? And so on. Are these your “belief”?
In all your speeches and manners are expressed the elements of your unbelief in Christ. All your motives and goals in doing things are full of the elements of unbelief. Even the expression in your eyes and the breath you breathe out are mixed with the elements of unbelief in Christ. It can be said that every one of you has the elements of “unbelief” at every minute. So, you are in danger of betraying Christ at every moment, because your whole body is infused with the blood of unbelief in the incarnated God. So, I say that your footsteps on the path of believing in God are not steady and firm and that you are not walking the path of believing in God in a down-to-earth manner but are muddling along. You always half believe the words spoken by Christ and cannot practice them immediately, and this is the reason why you do not “believe” in Christ. You always have notions about Christ, and this is also the reason why you do not believe in Christ. You always hold an unbelieving attitude toward the work done by Christ and always turn a deaf ear to Christ’s words; whatever Christ does, you have critical views and cannot understand it properly, and no matter how it is explained, you can hardly drop your notions; and so on. All these are the elements of unbelief mixed in your hearts. Although you never fall behind in following Christ’s work, in your hearts are mixed too many elements of disobedience. Such disobedience is the mixture in your belief in God. Maybe you all think it is nothing serious. But if you cannot know your intents from it, then you are surely one to perish. This is because the ones God perfects are those who genuinely believe in him, not those who half believe in him, much less those who never believe that he is God but follow him reluctantly.
Some people do not love the truth, much less judgment, but love power and money. Such people are called snobs. They specially search for the influential denominations in the world and specially search for the pastors and teachers from theological schools. Even though they have received the way of truth, they half believe in it and cannot put their heart and soul into it. Their mouths say words of spending for God but their eyes are set on the great pastors and teachers, and for Christ they do not even spare a glance. Their hearts are full of fame and gain and honor. They do not believe at all that such a small person can conquer so many people and such an inconspicuous person can perfect people. They do not believe at all that these nobodies in the dust and dunghill are God’s chosen people. They think that if these people were the objects of God’s salvation, then heaven and earth would be upside down, and people would all laugh their teeth off. They think that if God chose these people to perfect, then those great men would all be God Godself. Their viewpoints are mixed with the elements of unbelief. More than unbelieving, they are simply unreasonable beasts. As they only value position and renown and value power and they think highly of large groups and denominations, they have no regard at all for those led by Christ. They are simply the betrayers who run counter to Christ, to the truth, and to the life.
You do not adore Christ’s humbleness, but revere the false shepherds in prominent positions; you do not love Christ’s loveliness and Christ’s wisdom, but like the licentious men who wallow in the mire with the world; you just laugh at Christ’s suffering of having no place to lay his head, but admire the corpses that hunt for offerings and live in luxury and debauchery; you are not willing to suffer with Christ, but are willing to throw yourself into the bosom of those antichrists who act willfully and recklessly, although what they supply you with are only flesh, letters, and control. Even now your heart is still toward them, toward their fame, toward their position in the hearts of all the satans, toward their influence, and toward their authority. And toward Christ’s work, you still take an attitude that you can hardly accept it and do not want to accept it. This is why I say that you do not have the “belief” of acknowledging Christ. It is completely under compulsion that you can follow to this day. In your heart the lofty images are forever standing. You cannot forget any of their words and acts and cannot forget their words with influence and their hands with influence. In your heart, they are forever supreme and forever heroes. But the Christ of today is not so. He is forever a small one in your heart and forever a person unworthy of fear in your heart, because he is too ordinary, his influence is too little, and he is too far from being lofty.
In a word, I say that all those who do not pay attention to the truth are unbelieving ones and are betrayers of the truth, and such people will never receive Christ’s approval. Now, have you found out how many elements of unbelief there are in you? And how many elements of betraying Christ there are in you? I advise that since you have chosen the way of truth, you should devote yourself body and soul to it; do not be half-hearted and do not waver. You should know that God does not belong to the world or to a certain person, but belongs to everyone who truly believes in him, to everyone who worships him, and to all those who are absolutely loyal to him.
Now in you there are still many elements of unbelief. You might make a search carefully, and you will surely get an answer. When you get the true answer, you will say that you are not a person who believes in God but a person who cheats God, who blasphemes God, who betrays God, and who is unfaithful to God. At that time, you will think that Christ is God, not a man. When that day comes, you will have fear, dread, and true love for Christ. Now your belief is only thirty percent, but doubt occupies seventy percent of your heart. Anything Christ does or any word he speaks can cause you to have notions and critical views about him. These notions and these critical views result from your not believing in him at all. You only adore the invisible God in heaven and only dread the invisible God, but pay no attention to the Christ living on earth. Isn’t this still your unbelief? You only miss the God who did the works before, but do not face the Christ of today. These are forever the “belief” mixed in your hearts that you do not believe in the Christ of today. I am not underestimating you, because your elements of unbelief are too many and your impurities that need to be dissected are too many. These impurities are a sign of your having no “belief” at all, a mark of your rejecting Christ, a brand of your betraying Christ, a veil to your knowing Christ, a barrier to your being gained by Christ, a blockade to your being compatible with Christ, and a proof of your being not approved by Christ. Now you had better examine all your living! Doing so will be good for your everything!
