304 The Coming of the Son of Man Exposes All People
Verse 1
Prior to your contact with Christ,
you may feel your disposition’s changed,
that you follow Him loyally,
you’re most worthy of His blessings.
Having traveled so many roads,
done much work, and brought forth much fruit,
you believe you’ll become someone
who receives the crown in the end.
Pre-chorus 1
Yet there’s one truth you do not know
that man’s corrupt disposition,
man’s rebellion and resistance
are all exposed when they see Christ.
Chorus
The coming of Christ has revealed
all the rebellion of mankind
and thrown man’s nature into sharp relief.
Verse 2
It’s ’cause Christ is the Son of man
who has normal humanity
that man does not honor Him
and that man does not respect Him.
It’s because God lives in the flesh
man’s rebellion’s seen whole, vivid.
It’s like “luring tigers down the hill,”
“luring a wolf out of its cave.”
Pre-chorus 2
Dare you say you’re loyal to God,
or show full obedience to Him?
And dare you presume to say
you’re not rebellious against Him?
Chorus
The coming of Christ has revealed
all the rebellion of mankind
and thrown man’s nature into sharp relief.
Verse 3
Once with Christ, your self-importance
will slowly show through your ways, words.
Your discontent will be revealed,
also your excessive desires.
Your arrogance will get greater
until you are at odds with Christ,
just as water is with fire,
then your nature will be opened wide.
Pre-chorus 3
You still deny your rebellion,
think this tough Christ’s hard to accept,
and that you would fully submit
if He was a kinder Christ.
Chorus
The coming of Christ has revealed
all the rebellion of mankind
and thrown man’s nature into sharp relief.
Verse 4
You think there’s just cause for revolt,
you do it just when pushed too much.
Not once have you thought, you have failed
to obey and see Christ as God.
Rather, you stubbornly insist on
Christ working with your wishes,
and as soon as He doesn’t do this,
you think, He’s not God but human.
Pre-chorus 4
Are there not many among you
who have vied with Him in this way?
Who is it that you believe in?
And you choose to seek in what way?
Chorus
The coming of Christ has revealed
all the rebellion of mankind
and thrown man’s nature into sharp relief.
