In the past, I heard that when commenting on something, people often said: “What the ears hear is false and what the eyes see is true.” As time passed, I also observed things according to this remark, and I even treated God’s word likewise, so that I often could not believe God’s words that had not yet been fulfilled. As the time of my believing in God increased, I saw God’s word was fulfilled in varying degrees. And after witnessing the facts accomplished by the word of God, I no longer doubted that everything God’s word says is the true situation. I thought that I had some knowledge of God’s faithfulness and could believe that everything God says is practical.
But one day, when I read this word of God: “…without the end-time incarnated God coming to save you, God would have long destroyed all men in hell,” Again, I couldn’t believe God’s word. I thought: If it says “without God incarnated in the end time coming to save you, the corrupt mankind would all be destroyed in the end,” I will fully believe it. I know that God’s incarnation is of utmost importance to us. But for the saying that without God incarnated in the end time coming to save us, God would have “long since” destroyed all people in hell, I think this is merely a way of speaking. When I thought in this way, my heart felt uneasy. I had no choice but to come before God to look to and seek God: “O God! I don’t want to treat your word like this, and I also hate myself for being so crafty. I’ve followed you for so long and I’ve seen the facts that so many of your words have been fulfilled, but why do I still have such a thought? O God! I’m willing to believe your every word, and I also want to have a true belief in your word. May you guide me to enter into this reality.”
Later, I read these words in a new fellowship from above: “We must know that every word God speaks will be fulfilled and accomplished, but man cannot possibly know or see all the fulfillments. This is because the fulfillments of God’s words never fully conform to man’s imaginations. Sometimes they would be covered up by many outward phenomena and it is not easy for man to discern them. Only God is most clear about how his words are fulfilled. Some fulfillments of God’s words can be seen clearly by man, whereas some fulfillments are not easy to be seen clearly. So man should not judge from his own imaginations whether God’s words are fulfilled. Even those who understand the truth fairly well cannot see clearly how every word of God is fulfilled. The fulfillments of God’s words that man can see clearly are very limited, for God’s wisdom is forever unfathomable to man. How some word of God is fulfilled is completely determined by God, and there is God’s wisdom in it. How can man fathom it?”
Having read these words, I suddenly remembered the story of Jonah. The wickedness of the people in the city of Nineveh had come up before Jehovah, and Jehovah commanded Jonah to go to Nineveh to proclaim that in forty more days’ time Nineveh would be overturned. However, Jonah was unwilling to do what Jehovah commanded him, because he knew that Jehovah was gracious, compassionate, abounding in love, and slow to anger; if he had proclaimed what Jehovah had commanded him but in forty days Jehovah would not bring destruction upon the people in the city of Nineveh, then Jonah was afraid that they would say that he was a liar or a cheat. Today, several thousand years later, by reading the whole course recorded in the Bible, I know clearly that at that time God really wanted to destroy the city of Nineveh, but because of their repentance God didn’t do so. However, if I lived in Jonah’s time and didn’t know the things Jonah had experienced, and saw that the city of Nineveh was all right, then would I regard Jonah as a liar or a cheat? Definitely I would.
Now I have understood that if one judges some things from the facts he sees outwardly, it will be too one-sided, too simplistic, too inaccurate, will not be true, and will not be the whole of the fact, because the things man can see with his eyes are too few, too limited, and too superficial. Only if one views things from God’s word will his judgment be most accurate and comprehensive and be the true situation. Like the matter that Jehovah would destroy the city of Nineveh, the fact men saw was that this city had been safe all along before and after Jonah proclaimed that message, and there wasn’t any sign that Jehovah would destroy it. But the true situation was that according to God’s righteous nature, God was to destroy the city of Nineveh because the people in the city were too corrupt. However, God was merciful to men and loved men, so he sent Jonah to go and tell them to repent. Later, when God saw that they indeed repented, he had compassion on them and did not bring disaster upon them. If they had not repented, God would have done what he had said. (That is, forty more days and Nineveh would be overturned.) The true situation at that time developed just like this. But the people at that time could not know and see all this. That is to say, all the words God has spoken will be fulfilled and accomplished, and this is certain. The point is that man cannot fathom it or see it through, because God’s wisdom is forever unfathomable to man, and how a certain word of God is to be fulfilled is completely determined by God and there is God’s wisdom in it.
Thank God for inspiring me through this matter and I’ve understood that the word people often say, “What the ears hear is false and what the eyes see is true,” is not accurate. It is completely wrong to measure God’s word by this viewpoint. After having gained such a knowledge, I reread God’s word “without the end-time incarnated God coming to save you, God would have long destroyed all men in hell,” and I could believe the word from the bottom of my heart. I could also understand properly that according to our corruption and God’s righteousness, we “should have long since” been destroyed. But because God is merciful to us again, he has been incarnated personally to save us once more so that we can live before him today. Only then did I truly realize that every word God speaks is trustworthy and feel sincerely that God is so righteous and loves man so much.
Thank God for inspiring me so that I have understood the truth of one aspect and at same time corrected my former erroneous viewpoint on things. From now on, I will view people and things according to the word of God, for the word of God is the most accurate. Aside from the word of God, any viewpoints, such as “what the ears hear is false and what the eyes see is true,” are not accurate, no matter how correct they are in man’s eyes, how many times they have been tested through practice, or how long a history they have. God’s word is the sole criterion for me to view and measure things.
