Soon after I came to stay in a host home, I learned from the host sister’s talk that she had a strong prejudice against Sister X who stayed in her home before. When I heard about it, instead of fellowshipping with her about the truth, I thought to myself, “I’ll establish a good relationship with the sister and leave a good impression on her.” Under the sway of this intent, when being with her I was cautious in everything and spoke and acted according to her facial expressions. Sometimes in order to curry favor with her I even purposely gave her a few praises. After I dealt with her in this way for some time, however, she did not have a good opinion of me. On the contrary, she looked with disfavor on me, and even snubbed me when I spoke to her. In the face of all this, I sank into rumination: How could it be so? Have I done anything wrong? How should I get along with her in future? With this question, I opened the book of God’s word and came to these words: “If you do not have a normal relationship with God, regardless of how you maintain your relationship with people, however hard you try and however much effort you make, it is practicing human philosophies of life, and you are maintaining your position among people according to human viewpoints and by human philosophies so that they will compliment you, but not building a normal relationship with them according to God’s word. If you do not pay attention to your relationship with people but maintain a normal relationship with God, being willing to give your heart to God and learning to obey God, naturally your relationship with all people will be normal. … People’s normal relationship with others is built on the basis that their heart is turned to God, and it is not built through their effort. Without God, people only have a fleshly relationship with each other, which is abnormal, indulgent in lust, hated by God, and loathed by God.”
God’s words dispelled the mists in my mind and I suddenly felt brightened. The normal relationship between people is built on the basis that their heart is turned to God, and it is not attained by human effort. The host sister dislikes me, which is God’s dealing with my wrong intent within. Since she hosts me because of God’s love, I should eat and drink God’s word and fellowship about the truth with her, thereby building a normal relationship with her. Only this is after God’s heart. However, I not only didn’t do so, but I purposely flattered and fawned on her by the satanic philosophy of life, trying to maintain my fleshly relationship with her. How could this not be loathed by God? O God, I have known that I must establish a normal relationship with you before I can have a normal relationship with men. In future, I will drop my wrong intent, discard the satanic philosophy of life, and build a normal relationship with the sister according to your word.
When I dropped my intent, opened my heart, and ate and drank God’s word and fellowshipped with the host sister, we both felt great enjoyment and her prejudice against me was removed accordingly. Through this matter, I experienced that the word God says, “People’s normal relationship with others is built on the basis that their heart is turned to God, and it is not built through their effort,” is really so practical.
