In the course of my believing in God, I always thought that prayer was not important and that the main thing was to practice. So, every day I prayed perfunctorily. Only in my recent experience have I realized the importance of prayer: In anything one encounters, as long as he draws near to God and fellowships with God, God will surely lead him.
Because of the need of the work, the leader transferred me to another working place. At that time, as I was new to the place and did not grasp the states of the people there, I lacked strength and confidence in my heart. One week after I arrived there, unexpectedly, because the amount of the gospel work in other districts was great, all at once eight key members were moved away from the two second-line teams in my small district, including the directors and testifiers. Thus, I had even less confidence in my heart, and at the same time misunderstandings and complaints about God welled up. I thought to myself, “Others all did the work well when they were here; if I fail to do it well, doesn’t it mean I am exposed by God? Then I’ll be dismissed home. Why has God put me here?” I felt upset about this, yet I did not know to pray to God and touch his intention. When I was at a loss what to do, God’s words occurred to me: “In the future, without prayer, there will be no work. It is prayer that brings work, and it is prayer that brings service.” God’s words woke me up all at once. Why did I not know to pray to God? Isn’t God my support? Previously, I often neglected prayer, and even if I prayed, I went through the motions. In this case, how could I do the work well? And how could I receive the working of the Holy Spirit? At this thought, I came before God and told him my real state and all my difficulties: “O God, in the face of what has come upon me now, I can’t touch your intention and have lost my strength and confidence. And I don’t know what to do. May you help and guide me.” So I prayed before God three times in a row. The next morning, I suddenly received God’s inspiration: Don’t you believe that all things are in God’s hand? Everything God has arranged, good or bad, can benefit you and is to perfect you. Aren’t you ignorant how to give your heart to God? God has arranged these circumstances just to make you rely on him and seek him, so that you can turn your heart to him and enter into reality. At that moment, I was brightened and understood God’s intention, feeling relieved as if a load had been taken off my mind. I realized that prayer is so important and indispensable.
From then on, I treated prayer as an essential part in my life entering in. Whatever came upon me, I had no fear of difficulty; I first prayed to commit it to God and then relied on God to complete all the work. Through my cooperating with God, the two second-line teams were reestablished within a week, the states of the brothers and sisters were corrected, and the result of the gospel work went up instead of going down. All these were the results brought by prayer and were done by God. Only then did I see that so long as one relies on and looks to God, he can receive God’s inspiration and guidance, and God will, because of his prayer, give him infinite confidence and strength so that he can have resolution and perseverance. Through this experience, I do understand that prayer is the important way for man to communicate with God. Without prayer, man cannot achieve anything; if man relies on himself, he will have no way out. In my future experience, I will rely on God anywhere and anytime, and pray and draw near to God in everything, so as to let God lead me forward.
