74. The Principles of Practicing the Truth in All Things

1. No matter what issue you encounter, be quiet before God, pray to God and try to grasp His will, seek the enlightenment and illumination of the Holy Spirit and obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit;

2. No matter the issue, you must always seek the truth and principles of practice in God’s words. Understand and grasp both the truth and the principles of action;

3. Find brothers and sisters who have the work of the Holy Spirit and who are clear on the truth to fellowship and seek the truth with, so as to understand God’s will and to have a path forward;

4. If you are unable to accurately grasp God’s will, you can practice the principle of being beneficial to God’s chosen people. If you later discover an error, then you must rectify it.

Relevant Words of God:

Loving God requires seeking God’s will in all things, and that you probe deep within when anything happens to you, trying to grasp God’s will, and trying to see what God’s will is in this matter, what He wishes you to achieve, and how you should be mindful of His will. For example: Something happens that requires you to endure hardship, at which time you should understand what God’s will is, and how you should be mindful of His will. You must not satisfy yourself: First put yourself to one side. Nothing is more abject than the flesh. You must seek to satisfy God, and must fulfill your duty. With such thoughts, God will bring especial enlightenment to you in this matter, and your heart will also find comfort.

1. God hopes you can have independent eating and drinking, can always live in the light of God’s presence, in living never leaving God’s words, that is to be saturated with God’s words. In your every word and every act, God’s words shall guide you forward. If you truly get close to God to this degree, that you can be in constant communication with God, all that you do shall not end in confusion, or dead end. God must be there with you. Act by God’s word.

2. With every person and thing you encounter, God’s word will appear to you, guiding you to act by God’s will. Do all things in God’s word, and God shall lead you forward in each of your act, you shall never go astray, you shall be able to live in a new light, with more and newer enlightenments. You cannot use human thoughts to wonder what to do. Obey the guidance of God’s word, have a clear heart, keep quiet before God, ponder more. Do not fret for solutions to what you don’t understand, bring it before God often, offering a sincere heart.

3. Believe that God is your almighty! You must have a strong desire for God, hungrily seeking, refusing Satan’s excuses, intentions, and tricks. Do not despair. Do not be weak. Seek with all your heart; wait with all your heart. Actively cooperate with God, and get rid of inner obstacles. Believe that God is your almighty! from “Follow God’s Words and You Cannot Be Lost” in the Follow the Lamb and Sing New Songs

No matter what you do, you should first understand why you are actually doing it and what the nature of the matter is. If it is categorized as fulfilling your duty, then you should ponder: How should I do this? How should I fulfill my duty well so that I am not doing it perfunctorily? This is a matter in which you should draw close to God. Drawing close to God is seeking the truth in this matter, it is seeking the way to practice, it is seeking the will of God, and it is seeking how to satisfy God. These are the methods for drawing close to God while doing things; it is not performing a religious ceremony or an outward action; it is done for the purpose of practicing in accordance with the truth after seeking God’s will. … When fulfilling your duty or working on something, you should always think: How should I fulfill this duty? What is God’s intention? Through matters, you draw close to God, and through drawing close to God, you seek the principles and truths to do things, you seek God’s will from within and do not leave God in all that you do. This is a person who truly believes in God.

from “Seeking God’s Will and Putting Truth Into Practice to the Greatest Extent Possible” in Records of Christ’s Talks

To seek to grow in life you must seek the truth in everything. No matter what issue may arise, you must seek to face it in a way that conforms to the truth, because if you face it in a way that is not entirely pure, then you are going against the truth. Whatever you do, you must always consider its value. You can do those things that have meaning and must not do those things that have no meaning. With regard to things that you can either do or not do, if it can be let go, then let it go. Or if you do these things for some time and should then let them go, then let them go quickly, making a swift decision. This is the principle you should follow when doing anything. …

During the process of seeking to enter, every matter must be investigated and compared against God’s word and compared against the truth; they must be thoroughly mulled over to know how to do them in a way that is entirely in conformity with God’s will. Things that arise from your self-will can then be abandoned. You will know how to do things in conformity with God’s will and will then go and do them, as though everything is taking its natural course, and it will feel exceedingly easy. People who have the truth do things in this way. You can then really show others that you have genuinely changed your disposition, others will see that you surely possess some good deeds, and that you do things in a principled way, and do everything right. They will see that this is someone who understands the truth, who certainly has some human likeness and, sure enough, the word of God has reaped results with them.

from “Only by Seeking the Truth Can You Obtain Changes in Your Disposition” in Records of Christ’s Talks

No matter what you are doing, no matter how big the matter is, and regardless of whether you are fulfilling your duty in God’s family, or whether it is your private matter, you must consider whether this matter conforms with God’s will, whether this matter is something a person with humanity should do, and whether or not what you are doing would make God happy. You need to think about these things. If you do this, then you are a person who seeks the truth and a person who truly believes in God. If you devoutly treat every matter and every truth this way, then you will be able to transform your disposition. Some people think that they are doing something personal, and it is a private matter, so they do it as they wish. They ignore the truth and do it in whatever way makes them happy, and in whatever way is advantageous to them; they don’t give the slightest amount of consideration to how it affects God’s family and they don’t consider whether or not it is in accordance with the order of the saints. Finally, when they are finished with the matter, they are dark inside and uncomfortable; they are uncomfortable but they don’t know how it happened. Is this not a worthy retribution? If you do things that are not approved by God, then you have offended God. If people are not fond of truth, and frequently do things based on their own will, then they will frequently offend God. This kind of person is usually not approved by God in what they do and if they do not repent, then they will not be far from punishment.

If you want to put the truth into practice and understand it, first you must understand the essence of the difficulties you yourself face and the things that happen around you, what the problem is, and what aspect of the truth it is related to. You must seek this out. After that, seek the truth based on the real difficulties of yours. That way you gradually experience this, and you will be able to see the hand of God, what He wants to do, and the results He wants in you in everything that happens around you. If you feel that none of things that happen around you have anything to do with your belief in God or the truth, and you think: “I can handle it; I don’t need the truth or God’s word. Once there’s a gathering or I’m reading God’s word, or when I’m performing my duty, I’ll hold it up to the truth and to God’s word”; if you feel that the things that usually occur in your life—things in your family, work, marriage, and future prospects, all the things that happen around you—are not related to the truth, and you use human means to resolve them; if you experience things this way, then you will never gain the truth, and you will never understand what God actually wants to achieve in you and gain in you.

from “The Importance and the Path of Pursuing the Truth” in Records of Christ’s Talks

Only communicate with spiritual people about what I am. Understand My intentions, let My life flow among you, and live out My words and comply with My requirements.

from “The Thirty-first Utterance” in The Word Appears in the Flesh

It is hard for people to avoid mistakes in putting truth into practice. If you know how to do things in accordance with truth when you do them, but you don’t carry them out in accordance with truth, then the problem is that you are not fond of truth. A person who is not fond of truth will not be changed in disposition. If you cannot accurately grasp the will of God and don’t know how to practice, then you should communicate with others. If no one feels like they can see the matter clearly, then you should carry out the most reasonable solution; but if you ultimately discover that there is an error in carrying it out this way, then you should quickly correct it, and God will not count the error as a sin. Because your intent was right at the time of putting this matter into practice, and you were practicing in accordance with truth, only you didn’t see it clearly, and there were some errors in your actions; this is an extenuating circumstance. However, now many people merely rely on their own two hands to work and rely on their own minds to do this and that, and they seldom ponder: Does practicing this way conform to God’s will? Would God be happy if I do it this way? Would God trust me if I do it this way? Would I be putting truth into practice if I do it this way? If God hears this, would He be able to say, “This matter is done correctly and suitably. Keep it up”? Are you able to seriously examine everything like this? Are you able to be meticulous in everything? Or are you able to ponder if God despises the way you are doing it, how everyone else feels about the way you are doing it, whether you are doing it based on your own will, or to satisfy your own desires…? You have to put much thought into it, ask many questions, and seek more, and the errors will become smaller and smaller. Doing things this way proves that you are a person who genuinely seeks truth and that you are a person who reveres God, because you are doing things in accordance with the direction required by truth.

If one’s action comes apart from the truth, then he is the same as an unbeliever. This is the type of person who is without God in his heart, who leaves God, and this kind of person is like a hired worker in God’s family who works for his master and receives a little compensation, and then he is gone. This is simply not a person who believes in God. Was it not mentioned before, “What can you do to gain God’s approval”? This has been spoken of, right? Approval from God is the first thing you should think about and work for; it should be the principle and scope in your practice.

The Man’s Fellowship:

There are some of God’s words and some truths that can only be entered into and understood by experiencing them. This cannot be achieved just by praying, but rather you must look for experienced people to fellowship with you. After fellowshiping for some time, you come to understand, then you enter into experience. After experiencing for some time, you obtain the enlightenment and illumination of the Holy Spirit, you come to have some knowledge of the truth and, after fellowshiping again with experienced people, your entry is then complete. Therefore, there are some truths that can only be entered into through being guided by the fellowships of experienced people. …

from the fellowship from the above

Some people are incapable of eating and drinking the words of God—they just won’t eat or drink them, and people like this are even less able to gain the truth. Nowadays, most people are incapable of eating and drinking the words of God, so what can they do? They must listen more to the fellowships of those who have the ability to understand and who have the work of the Holy Spirit—this is the only remedy.
