People are all struck dumb when they see God’s utterance, thinking that God has done a great thing in the spiritual realm, which is beyond man’s capacity and which must be done by God Godself. Therefore, God speaks words of tolerating them. And their hearts are all in the contradiction then: God is a God who has no mercy or love and who specially strikes man down; then why does he tolerate us? Can it be that God has again turned to a “way”? When such a notion, such a thought, comes to their hearts, they all try hard to deal with it. However, when God’s work proceeds for some time, the Holy Spirit greatly works in the church, and everyone begins to perform his own function, all people enter into such a way of God, because in God’s speaking and working, no one can find any flaw. No one knows how exactly God will work in the next step, just like the word from God’s mouth, “Among men in the world, who is not in my hand? Who does not act under my leading?” But I would advise that none of you should act or comment on the things you cannot see through. By the above word, I do not mean to discourage your enthusiasm, but to let you act under God’s leading. Never be disappointed or suspicious because of the “flaw” spoken of by me. Its main purpose is to remind you to pay attention to God’s word. When people read the word spoken by God, “Be fine and tender toward the things in the spirit and pay attention to my word, thus being truly able to see my Spirit and the Person, my word and the Person as an indivisible whole, so that everyone can satisfy me before me,” they are all struck dumb again: What we saw yesterday were the words of warning and were God’s tolerance; however, today God suddenly talks of the things in the spirit. What’s this? Why does God’s way of speaking change again and again? And why should they be considered as an indivisible whole? Can it be that God’s word is not realistic either? Reading this word carefully, you can find: If God’s Spirit separates from his flesh, the flesh is just a body that has the same attribute as a body, that is, a walking corpse as said by man. The incarnated flesh is from the Spirit and is the embodiment of the Spirit, that is, the “Way” becomes flesh. That is to say, “God Godself” lives in the flesh. From it you see what the seriousness of separating the Spirit from the Person is. So, the flesh, though called a man, is not of mankind, without man’s attribute, and is a person God is clothed in and a person approved by God. In the word is embodied God’s Spirit, and God’s word is directly manifested in the flesh. This further shows that God lives in the flesh and is the more practical God, thus proving the existence of “God” and ending the age of men’s disobeying God. After telling people the way to know God, God switches the subject to another aspect of the issue.
“I once trod on all things, looking at the full scope of the universe. And I once walked among all men, tasting the sour, sweet, bitter, and hot of the world.” This word, though simple, is not easy for people to understand. Although the subject of talk is changed, its substance is unchanged, which still can enable them to know the incarnated God. Why do I say “tasting the sour, sweet, bitter, and hot of the world”? Why do I say “walked among all men”? God is the Spirit and is also a man incarnate. The Spirit is not restricted by the Person and can tread on all things and look at the full scope of the universe. It clearly shows that God’s Spirit fills the space of the universe and the ends of the earth and no place is not under the arrangement of God’s hand and nowhere is not left with God’s footprints; although the Spirit is incarnated in the flesh and born as a man, the flesh does not break away from everything man needs because the Spirit is in him, but he normally eats, dresses, sleeps, and dwells and normally does what man should do. However, because of the difference of the inner substance, he is not the same as “man.” Although he undergoes the sufferings of the world, he does not forsake the Spirit because of the sufferings; although he enjoys the blessings, he does not forget the Spirit because of the blessings. The Spirit and the Person cooperate very well, and the Spirit and the Person are inseparable; however, they have never separated. The Person is the incarnation of the Spirit and comes from the Spirit, the Spirit who has an image, so the Spirit in the flesh cannot transcend the flesh, that is, he cannot do anything supernatural, or in other words, the Spirit cannot leave the flesh. If the Spirit leaves the flesh, all the significance of God’s being incarnated will come to naught. Only when the Spirit is completely expressed in the flesh can men have a chance to know the practical God Godself and can they reach God’s will. Only after God has respectively introduced the Spirit and the flesh to men does he point out their blindness and disobedience: “However, men have never had a true knowledge of me or taken notice of me when I was walking.” On one hand, God says that he is silent hiding himself in the flesh and has never done anything supernatural for people to see, but on the other hand, he complains that none of them knows him. These are not contradictory. Actually, from the details, it is not hard to find that God aims to achieve his purpose from two sides. If God performed supernatural signs and wonders, then without doing any great work, he would personally curse a man to death, who would die at once; in that case, all men would be subdued. But if so, the purpose of God’s being incarnated would not be achieved. If God really did so, men could never believe in the existence of God in their consciousness and they could not truly believe. Moreover, they would mistakenly consider “devils” as “God.” What is worse, they would never know God’s disposition. Isn’t this the significance of one aspect of God’s being in the flesh? If men cannot know God, then among men there will forever be the vague god, supernatural god, to rule. Isn’t it that men are occupied by their notions? To put it more plainly, isn’t it that satan and devils rule? “Why do I say that I will take back the authority? Why do I say that the incarnation has very much significance?” When God is incarnated, he takes back the authority at that time. That is, when the divinity directly comes out to work, all people gradually know the practical God, thus abolishing satan’s place in their hearts completely, so that God’s place in their hearts deepens. Before, in people’s hearts, “God” was seen as an image of satan, untouchable and invisible. However, they believed in the existent, mysterious God that could perform many signs and wonders and disclose many ugly images of those, such as the ones possessed by demons. It sufficiently shows that the God in people’s hearts is not “the image of God” but an image other than God. God says that he wants to occupy a tenth of one percent of place in people’s hearts, which is the highest standard required of them. Not only does this word have its exterior aspect, but even more it has its practical aspect. If God does not make such an explanation, people will all think that God makes too low a requirement of them, as if God did not know them well. Isn’t it of their mind?
If you combine the preceding word with the example of Peter below, you will find that Peter is indeed the man who has most knowledge of God, because he could forsake the vague god and pursue to know the practical God. Why does God specially point out that his parents were demons who resisted God? It is sufficient to show that he did not pursue the god in his own heart, and “his parents” mentioned were the representatives of “the vague god.” This is the meaning of God’s giving the example of his parents. Most people do not pay attention to this fact, but they focus their attention on the prayers of Peter. Some even keep Peter’s prayers on their lips at all times, never forgetting for a moment. But they do not contrast the vague god with Peter’s knowledge. Why did Peter betray his parents and pursue to know God? Why did Peter refer to the lessons of the failures to admonish himself? Why did he absorb the faith and love of all those who loved God throughout the generations? Peter realized that all positive things originated from God and directly came from God without having been “processed” by satan. From this it can be seen that what he knew is the practical God instead of the supernatural god. Why do I say that Peter paid attention to absorbing the “faith” and “love” of all those who loved God throughout the generations? It is sufficient to show that the main reason for the failure of the people throughout the generations is that they had only “faith” and “love,” but they could not know the practical God, and thus they still kept a vague faith. Why does God only mention “Job’s faith” for times rather than say that he knows God, and say that he falls short of Peter? From the word of Job, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you,” it can be seen that Job had only faith but not knowledge. Concerning the word, “With his parents serving as the setoff from the negative aspect, he better knew my mercy and love,” most people will ask a series of questions: Why could he know God only with his parents serving as the setoff from the negative aspect but could not directly know God? Why does God only speak of the knowledge of mercy and love rather than anything else? Only if one knows the impracticalness of the vague god can he pursue the knowledge of the practical God. The purpose of this word is to cause people to clear their hearts of the vague god. If men knew God’s original image from the creation of the world till today, they would not see through satan’s deeds, for the common saying “one who has not ascended a high hill cannot appreciate the level ground” is enough for us to know the meaning of God’s speaking this word. Because God wants people to know better the truthfulness of the example spoken of by him, he intentionally highlights the mercy and love, to prove that the age Peter was in was the Age of the Grace. From another side, it is more sufficient to show the devil’s ugly image: it does nothing but damage men and corrupt men. So, God’s love and mercy are set off all the more.
God roughly tells the facts of Peter’s being tried and also tells the factual states, from which people can see more: God has not only mercy and love, but also majesty and wrath; all those who live in peace are not likely the ones who live in God’s blessing. God tells people the experiences of Peter after encountering the trials, which further prove the truthfulness of the word in Job’s mouth “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” It sufficiently shows that Peter’s knowledge of God had indeed reached an unprecedented state, which people throughout the generations could reach. And it was also the fruit of his absorbing the faith and love of all those who loved God throughout the generations and referring to the lessons of the past failures to admonish himself. Therefore, all those who have a true knowledge of God are called “fruits,” of which Peter is one. From Peter’s prayers to God, people can well perceive Peter’s true knowledge of God in the trials. But the only flaw was that he could not fathom God’s will. So, on the basis of Peter’s knowing God, God makes such a requirement of men “he only wants to occupy a tenth of one percent of place in men’s hearts.” From the fact that Peter, though he is the one who knows God the most, could not touch God’s will accurately either, it can be seen that men do not have the organ to know God, because they have been corrupted by satan to a certain extent. And all people will thereby know man’s substance. Under the two prerequisites that men do not have the organ to know God and they are saturated by satan, God’s great power is set off, because God, who just works at the word and does not do any other work, has occupied a certain place in men’s hearts. But why is it that just a tenth of one percent of place has satisfied God’s heart’s desire? This should be explained from the fact that God did not make this organ for men. If men had a hundred percent of knowledge of God on the basis that they do not have this organ, they would know God’s every act and move like the back of their hands; and then, because of their inborn nature, they would rebel against God at once and rise to resist God openly (so did satan fall). So, God does not underestimate men. Just because he has dissected men thoroughly, he is perfectly clear even about how many water molecules there are in men’s blood. How much more men’s bare nature? God will never do wrong, and moreover, in his words he is quite exact in his use of words. Therefore, that Peter did not touch God’s will accurately is not in conflict with the fact that he is the one who knows God the most and is absolutely uncorrelated with it. God gives the example of Peter not for the purpose that all people should pay attention to him. Why is it that even such a man as Job could not know God but Peter could do? Why does God say that men can do it but he says again that it is God’s great power? Is it really because men have a good gift? This point is hard for men to know. If I do not explain it, no one will know the meaning in it. The purpose of this word is to let people see something, so that they will have faith to cooperate with God. Only in this way can God work through men’s cooperation. This is the truth in the spiritual realm, which men cannot fathom at all. Only when satan’s place is removed from men’s hearts and thus their hearts are occupied by God, which is beating off satan’s attack, does it mean that Christ descends to the earth and the kingdom of the world becomes the kingdom of Christ.
Here, I mention that Peter has become the exemplar and model for people over the thousands of years not merely for showing that he is an exemplar and model. This word is a live reflection of a war in the spiritual realm. Satan has been working on men, trying to devour men, thus to make God destroy the world and lose testimony. But God says: “I will first make a model so that I will occupy the least place in his heart. In this stage, although he cannot satisfy my heart or know me completely, because of my great power, he can completely obey me rather than disobey me. I just conquer satan with this example, that is, overwhelm all the forces of satan on him with a tenth of one percent of place.” So, today God gives the example of Peter for all people to imitate and practice. If you refer to the beginning of the word, you can see the truthfulness of the actual situation of the spiritual realm mentioned by God: “Today, as is different from before, I will do things men have never seen since the creation of the world, and I will speak words men have never heard throughout the generations, for I require all men to know the me in the flesh.” It clearly shows that God today has begun to do what he says. Men all can only see the outward appearance of things, but they cannot see the actual situation of the spiritual realm, so God directly says: “This is a step in my management, yet men do not know or understand it. Despite my plain word, men are still muddled and can hardly speak about it clearly. Isn’t it the lowness of men?” God’s words have a hidden meaning, which shows that there is a war in the spiritual realm, just as mentioned above.
After a brief introduction of Peter’s story, God’s will still has not been fully fulfilled, so God, based on Peter’s story, makes a requirement of people: “In the entire universe and expanse as well as in the heavens and the earth and all things, everything on earth and everything in heaven are contributing all their strength to the last stage of my work. Are you willing to be spectators and thus be driven by the satanic forces?” After reading Peter’s knowledge, people are all deeply enlightened by it. So, for a better result, God shows them the consequence of being wild and unrestrained and of not knowing God, and he tells them more accurately the actual situation of the war in the spiritual realm again. Only in this way will people be more cautious so as not to be taken captive by satan. And it shows that if they fail this time, they will never be saved by God like this time. These several kinds of warnings, which are combined, deepen their impression about God’s word and make them treasure God’s mercy all the more and treasure God’s words of warning so that God’s purpose of saving men is truly achieved.
