742 Only Those Who Revere God Are Happy

Verse 1

There lived a righteous man named Job,

who always feared God and always shunned evil,

his deeds praised by God, remembered by man.

Job’s life had meaning, Job’s life had worth.

Job was blessed by God, but he also was

tested by Satan and tried by God.

As he stood witness for God he feared,

he deserved to be called a righteous man.

Pre-chorus

Regardless of what Job had been through,

his life was happy, there was no pain.

Chorus

Job was happy not only because

he was blessed or commended by God,

but also because of his pursuit,

’cause he pursued the reverence of God.

Job was happy.

Verse 2

In the few decades after Job was tried,

his life was more grounded and meaningful.

He pursued belief and recognition

and also submission to God’s sovereignty.

All important junctures in Job’s life

were marked by these pursuits and goals.

With them he lived out his last years in peace,

and greeted the end with happiness.

Pre-chorus

Regardless of what Job had been through,

his life was happy, there was no pain.

Chorus

Job was happy not only because

he was blessed or commended by God,

but also because of his pursuit,

’cause he pursued the reverence of God.

Job was happy.

Bridge

In seeking to fear God and to shun evil,

Job had come to know God’s sovereignty.

And in his experience of it,

he realized how wondrous the Creator’s deeds were.

Job was happy because of his association with God,

his acquaintance with God,

and the understanding between him and God.

Job was happy.

Chorus

Job was happy not only because

he was blessed or commended by God,

but also because of his pursuit,

’cause he pursued the reverence of God.

Job was happy.

Outro

Job was happy because of the comfort and joy

that came from knowing the Creator’s will,

because of his fear after seeing

how great, wondrous, lovable, and faithful God is.

Job was happy.
