Verse 1

Before you settle on your own conclusions,

come to understand God’s view toward you.

Find out what He thinks, then you can decide

whether your own way of thinking is right.

God doesn’t measure one’s outcome,

by time, or how much they’ve suffered.

Things not in line with God’s standard

come from human notion or imagination.

If you let go of your way of thinking

and correct all the wrong views of the past,

if you can fear God, shun evil from now on,

and honor God as great in all things,

if you refrain from your own fancies or notions,

or beliefs defining yourself and God,

if you seek His intentions and

understand His attitude toward humanity,

if you meet His standards to satisfy Him,

it will be wonderful, and it will show

you’re embarking on the journey

of fearing God and shunning all evil.

Verse 2

If you insist on your notions and fancies,

the result is God’s spurning of you.

For you flaunt your credentials before Him,

compete and argue with Him.

You don’t try to find out what His will is,

or learn His attitude toward mankind.

If you go down this path,

you put yourself above all.

This does not honor or magnify God.

You believe in yourself, not in God.

God does not want such people,

He won’t bring them salvation.
