947 The Warning of God’s Destruction of Sodom to Mankind

Verse 1

Of all the wicked deeds committed

by the people living in Sodom,

the fact they were harming God’s servants

was only the tip of the iceberg,

only hinting at their wicked nature,

no more than a drop in the ocean.

Therefore, God chose to destroy them with fire.

Yes, God destroyed them with fire.

Chorus

The destruction of Sodom hobbled Satan’s ambition

to corrupt and devour men and thereby to oppose God.

It’s a mark of shame of when man shunned God,

abandoning himself to vice.

It’s a true revelation of God’s righteous disposition.

Verse 2

God did not use a flood or a hurricane,

nor earthquake, nor tsunami:

He chose fire to ensure the city’s total destruction.

It would vanish from the earth and existence,

and not simply its form or its structure,

also the souls of all the people inside.

Everything would be eradicated,

all within the city would cease to exist.

Pre-chorus

All the things to do with Sodom,

everything would be destroyed,

no next life for its people, and no reincarnation.

They would be cut off from the humanity

of His creation—for all eternity.

Chorus

The destruction of Sodom hobbled Satan’s ambition

to corrupt and devour men and thereby to oppose God.

It’s a mark of shame of when man shunned God,

abandoning himself to vice.

It’s a true revelation of God’s righteous disposition.

Bridge

The use of fire was a signifier

of an end to the sin in this place.

It was curbed, would not spread, would cease to exist.

Satan’s evil lost its nurturing soil

and its graveyard—a place to stay and live.

In the war between God and Satan,

God’s use of fire is the brand of His vict’ry,

it’s the brand with which Satan is marked.

Chorus

The destruction of Sodom hobbled Satan’s ambition

to corrupt and devour men and thereby to oppose God.

It’s a mark of shame of when man shunned God,

abandoning himself to vice.

It’s a true revelation of God’s righteous disposition.
