233 If It Is the Work of the Holy Spirit, You Should Accept It
Verse 1
The Jews read the Old Testament,
and therefore they all knew
of Isaiah’s prophecy that a baby boy
would be born in a manger.
So since they knew about this,
why did they persecute Jesus?
It was because of their rebellious nature
and their ignorance of the Holy Spirit’s work.
Verse 2
The Pharisees thought the work
of Jesus was different from
what they knew about the prophesied baby,
and the people now reject God
because the work He does in flesh
does not fit with the Bible.
Is this not the same rebelliousness towards God?
Can you accept the Spirit’s work without question?
Chorus
If it’s the work of the Holy Spirit,
then it surely must be the right stream.
You should accept it with no misgivings;
you should not pick or choose what to accept.
Verse 3
If you gain more insight into God
and are more cautious towards Him,
does not all of this become wholly uncalled for?
You don’t need to check the Bible;
if it is the work of God,
then you have to accept it.
You believe in God so you should follow Him,
so you should avoid investigating Him.
Bridge
Do not seek more evidence
to prove that He’s your God.
You should be able to tell if He helps you.
Nothing’s more important.
And even if you find irrefutable proof in the Bible,
it can’t bring you fully before Him.
Your life would be bounded
by what the Bible says, and not before God;
the Bible can’t help you to know Him,
nor deepen your love for Him.
Verse 4
In each age God’s work is constrained
to the work of the current age;
He won’t do work in advance from the next stage.
Only in this way can the work
of each age be emphasized.
Jesus only spoke of the signs of the last days,
how to be patient and saved,
how to repent, confess and endure suffering.
Pre-chorus
Never did Jesus speak of how man in the last days
should achieve entry or fulfill God’s will.
So isn’t it absurd to search in the Bible
for God’s work in the last days?
What is there to see with the Bible in your hands?
No matter who explains the Bible,
who could have predicted today’s work?
Chorus
If it’s the work of the Holy Spirit,
then it surely must be the right stream.
You should accept it with no misgivings;
you should not pick or choose what to accept.
