405 Is This True Faith in God?
Verse 1
In their faith, people want God to give them
a suitable destination
and all of the grace that they need.
They want to make Him into their servant,
maintaining friendly relations,
trying to make sure they never fight.
Their belief in God is dependent
on Him meeting their requirements
and giving them what they pray for.
Pre-chorus 1
They expect God not to judge or deal with anyone,
for He has always been the merciful Savior Jesus.
This means they expect Him to keep a good relationship
with all the people at all times and in all places.
Chorus
In their hearts, gaining grace and enjoying peace
are just the symbols of faith.
The pursuit of blessings is their basis for faith.
Few seek to know God.
Few pursue any change in their disposition.
Verse 2
This is how people believe in God:
They make shameless demands of Him,
expecting all to be granted,
whether they’re rebellious or obedient.
They continually “collect debts,”
expecting God to just repay,
and to pay double without resistance,
whether or not God has received
anything at all from them.
Pre-chorus 2
It seems God can only be manipulated by them,
and He can’t just orchestrate people at His own will,
or reveal His hidden wisdom and righteousness to people.
He can’t just do that when He wants, without their permission.
Bridge
They think if they just confess their sins to God,
then God will just absolve them,
and He cannot get sick of doing so,
and this will go on forever.
They order God about and He just obeys.
And have you not always believed in this way?
Chorus
In their hearts, gaining grace and enjoying peace
are just the symbols of faith.
The pursuit of blessings is their basis for faith.
Few seek to know God.
Few pursue any change in their disposition.
