823 Only by Knowing God’s Deeds Can One Bear True Witness to Him
Verse 1
If you can’t see any of God’s deeds
among all the things that He has created,
then to His actions you can’t bear witness.
If for God you cannot bear witness,
but you still talk of the small “God” you know,
a God limited by ideas of your own,
who only exists in your small mind,
then God will never praise your faith.
Chorus
If you want to bear true witness to God,
the one true God, according to His will,
you must see from His deeds what He has and is,
through His rule over all things
see His authority and see how He provides
for mankind endlessly.
Verse 2
If you only bear witness for God
on your own terms,
testifying to Him based on
how you take His discipline,
how you benefit from His grace,
how you accept His chastening,
then that does not come close
to satisfying Him.
Chorus
If you want to bear true witness to God,
the one true God, according to His will,
you must see from His deeds what He has and is,
through His rule over all things
see His authority and see how He provides
for mankind endlessly.
Outro
If all that you acknowledge is
that your sustenance and all your needs,
they come from God, the only God,
but the whole truth you fail to see—
everything created by God
is used to provide for mankind
and by ruling over all things,
He is leading all mankind—
if you have not acknowledged this
and have not seen the entire truth,
then you’ll never be able to bear witness to God.
