501 The Practice of Forsaking the Flesh
Chorus
If something happens that requires you
to endure hardship,
understand and be mindful
of God’s will at that time.
Don’t satisfy yourself, put yourself aside.
Nothing’s more abject than the flesh.
You must seek and satisfy God
and fulfill your duty.
With such thoughts, God will bring you
special enlightenment in this matter,
and your heart will find comfort.
Verse 1
When something happens to you,
big or small, put yourself to one side,
regard the flesh as the most lowly of all things.
The more you satisfy the flesh,
the more it asks, the more liberties it takes,
the greater it desires, the more debauched it is,
until the point the flesh will harbor much deeper conceptions,
disobey God, exalt itself, be doubtful of God’s work.
Chorus
If something happens that requires you
to endure hardship,
understand and be mindful
of God’s will at that time.
Don’t satisfy yourself, put yourself aside.
Nothing’s more abject than the flesh.
You must seek and satisfy God
and fulfill your duty.
With such thoughts, God will bring you
special enlightenment in this matter,
and your heart will find comfort.
Verse 2
Man’s flesh is like a snake, it harms lives.
And your life is forfeited
when it finally completely gets its own way.
The flesh belongs to Satan.
It’s selfish with extravagant desires,
wanting comfort, leisure, ease and idleness.
Once the flesh is satisfied up to a certain point,
you will ultimately be eaten up by it.
Chorus
If something happens that requires you
to endure hardship,
understand and be mindful
of God’s will at that time.
Don’t satisfy yourself, put yourself aside.
Nothing’s more abject than the flesh.
You must seek and satisfy God
and fulfill your duty.
With such thoughts, God will bring you
special enlightenment in this matter,
and your heart will find comfort.
