739 Those Who Revere God Extol God in All Things
Verse 1
Though Job had never seen God or heard His words,
Job had a place in his heart for God.
His attitude toward God was “blessed be Jehovah’s name.”
He blessed God’s name without condition,
regardless of context, and bound to no reason.
Job had given his heart to God,
yielding himself to God’s control;
all his thoughts, decisions, and plans of heart
were laid open to God and not closed off.
His heart did not stand opposing God,
and he had never asked God to do or give him anything,
and he harbored no extravagant desires
that he would gain from his worship of God.
Chorus
Job didn’t talk of trades with God,
and made no requests or demands of Him.
He praised God’s name
because of God’s great power and authority
in ruling all things, ruling all things;
Job’s praise did not depend
on gaining blessing or facing disaster.
Verse 2
Job believed that whether God blesses people
or brings disaster on them,
God’s power and authority will not change;
regardless of the circumstances,
God’s name should be praised.
The fact that man is blessed by God
is because of God’s sovereignty,
and when disaster befalls man, so, too,
it’s because of God’s sovereignty.
God’s power and authority
rule and arrange everything about man;
God demonstrates this in man’s ever-changing fortune.
Regardless of one’s viewpoint,
God’s name should be praised.
This is what Job experienced
and came to know in his years of life.
All Job’s thoughts and actions
reached God’s ears and eyes,
and were seen as important to Him.
God cherished this knowledge of this man,
and treasured him for having such a heart.
Bridge
Job’s heart always waited for God’s command.
It didn’t matter what time or place,
he welcomed all things that befell him.
He made no demands of God.
He demanded of himself
to wait for, accept, face, and obey
every arrangement that came from God.
Job believed this to be his duty,
exactly what God wanted.
Chorus
Job didn’t talk of trades with God,
and made no requests or demands of Him.
He praised God’s name
because of God’s great power and authority
in ruling all things, ruling all things;
Job’s praise did not depend
on gaining blessing or facing disaster.
