130. The Principles of How to Treat People According to Their Essence

1. So long as someone is confirmed to be an evil person, an evil spirit or an antichrist in essence, then they must be expelled or purged no matter how much evil they have done;

2. Those whose essence is not that of an evil person, an evil spirit or an antichrist, but is of someone with a bad humanity who has transgressed, should be helped with a loving heart and given the opportunity to repent;

3. You should watch and wait regarding those with special problems, whose essence you are temporarily unable to see through. They may be handled when you are able to see through their essence and define it;

4. You must not judge or condemn people according to their momentary expressions, but must determine their essence according to their consistent performance, and treat people fairly by relying on the principles of the truth.

Relevant Words of God:

Those who have been corrupted by Satan all have a corrupt disposition. But whereas some people only have a corrupt disposition there are others who are not like this, in that not only do they have corrupt satanic dispositions, but their natures are also malicious to the extreme. All this type of person does and says is not only expressing their corrupt satanic dispositions, but they themselves are the real devil Satan. All they do is interrupt and disturb God’s work, disturb the life entry of brothers and sisters, and destroy the normal life of the church. These wolves in sheep’s clothing must sooner or later be cleared out, and one must adopt an attitude toward these lackeys of Satan that is in no way polite; one must adopt an attitude of abandonment toward them. Only by doing this can one stand at God’s side and those who cannot do so are in collusion with Satan. …

… Those who belong to Satan will be returned to Satan, while those who belong to God will surely go in search of the truth; this is determined by their natures. Let all those who follow Satan perish! No pity will be shown to these people. Let those who search for the truth attain provision and allow them to take pleasure in God’s word to their hearts’ content. God is righteous; He does not treat people unjustly. If you are a devil then you will be incapable of practicing the truth. If you are someone who searches for the truth then it is certain that you will not be taken captive by Satan—this is beyond all doubt.

from “A Warning to Those Who Do Not Practice the Truth” in The Word Appears in the Flesh

The demonic people are those who do not practice the truth; their essence is one of resisting and being disobedient to God, and they do not have the slightest intentions of obeying God. Such people will all be destroyed. Whether you have truth and whether you resist God are determined according to your essence, not according to your appearance or your occasional speech and conduct. Every person’s essence decides whether they will be destroyed; this is determined according to the essence revealed by their conduct and their pursuit of the truth. Among people who similarly do work and also do similar amounts of work, those whose human essences are good and who possess truth are the people who can remain, but those whose human essences are evil and who disobey the visible God are those who shall be destroyed. … Anyone who does not recognize God is an enemy; that is, anyone within or without this stream who does not recognize God incarnate is an antichrist! Who is Satan, who are demons, and who are God’s enemies if not resisters who do not believe in God? Are they not those people who are disobedient to God? Are they not those people who verbally claim to believe yet lack truth? Are they not those people who only pursue the obtaining of blessings yet cannot bear witness for God? You can still hobnob with those demons today and stress conscience and love with these demons; is this not considered extending good intentions to Satan? Is it not considered associating with demons? If people are still unable to distinguish between good and evil today, and still blindly stress love and pity without in any way hoping to seek God’s will, and cannot in any way have God’s heart as their own, their endings will be all the more wretched. Anyone who does not believe in the God in the flesh is an enemy of God. If you can stress conscience and love to an enemy, do you not lack a sense of righteousness? If you are compatible with those which I detest and disagree with, and still stress love or personal feelings with them, are you not then disobedient? Are you not intentionally resisting God? Does a person like this possess truth? If people stress conscience to enemies, stress love to demons and stress pity to Satan, are they not intentionally interrupting God’s work? Those people who believe only in Jesus and do not believe in God incarnate during the last days and those who verbally claim to believe in God incarnate but do evil are all antichrists, let alone those people who do not believe in God. These people will all be destroyed. The standard by which man judges man is based on his behavior; one whose conduct is good is a righteous person, and one whose conduct is abominable is wicked. The standard by which God judges man is based on whether one’s essence obeys Him; one who obeys God is a righteous person, and one who does not obey God is an enemy and a wicked person, regardless of whether this person’s behavior is good or bad, and regardless of whether this person’s speech is correct or incorrect.

from “God and Man Will Enter Into Rest Together” in The Word Appears in the Flesh

Any person corrupted by evil spirits shall not be used by Me, and will be kicked out! Do not think I do not have feelings! Know this! I am the holy God, and I will not reside in a filthy temple!

from “The Seventy-sixth Utterance” in The Word Appears in the Flesh

During the time of the work of words, many people will expose their rebelliousness and defiance, and they will expose their disobedience toward the incarnate God. But He will not punish all these people because of this, instead He will only cast aside those who are corrupt to the core and who cannot be saved. He will give their flesh to Satan, and in a few cases, terminate their flesh. Those who are left will continue to follow and experience dealing and pruning. If while they follow they still cannot accept dealing and pruning and they become more and more degenerate, then these people will have lost their chance for salvation. Each and every person who has accepted the conquering of words will have ample opportunity for salvation. God’s salvation of each one of these people shows them His utmost leniency, meaning that they are showed the utmost tolerance. So long as people turn back from the wrong path, so long as they can repent, then God will give them the opportunity to obtain His salvation. When people first rebel against God, God has no desire to put them to death, but instead does all He can to save them. If someone really has no room for salvation, then God will cast them aside. That God is slow to punish someone is because He wants to save all those who can be saved. He judges, enlightens and guides people only with words, and does not use a rod to put them to death. Using words to save people is the purpose and significance of the final stage of work.

from “You Should Put Aside the Blessings of Status and Understand God’s Will for the Salvation of Man” in The Word Appears in the Flesh

Some people may say some unkind words or ugly words when they do not understand, or when they are deceived, restricted, controlled, or suppressed by others. But when they accept the true way in the future they will be filled with regret. They then conduct enough good deeds and are able to experience change and achieve understanding, and in this way their previous offense will no longer be remembered. … With regard to people’s conditions, some ever resisted, some rebelled, others spoke words of complaint, engaged in misconduct, committed acts against the church or did things that damaged the family of God. Their outcomes will be determined with reference to their nature and the full breadth of their behavior. Some people are wicked, some are foolish, some are silly, and some are animals. People are all different. Some wicked people are possessed by evil spirits, while others are the messengers of the devil Satan. With regard to their natures, some are particularly sinister, some are particularly deceitful, some are especially greedy for money, while others are sexually promiscuous. Every person’s behavior is different, so each person should be viewed comprehensively according to their personal nature and behavior. … This is decided by man’s instinct. So when I hear of such things as people resisting or rebelling, I seem to get very angry, but then, when I consider man’s instincts, I deal with it differently. Therefore, any work done by God is well measured. God knows what to do and how to do it…. God deals with each person according to the background at the time, the actual situation, people’s actions, performance and expressions, and the environment and context people are in. God will never wrong anyone. This is the righteousness of God.

from “What Kind of People Will Be Punished” in Records of Christ’s Talks

Some people go through years of God’s work and in the end, they still don’t understand their natures. They always think that they are good people and that they made a mistake in a moment of carelessness, and even to this day, they would rather be eliminated than submit. This kind of person is too arrogant and ignorant and simply doesn’t accept the truth. They will never be able to transform and become human beings. From this you can discover that even though people’s natures are in resistance and betrayal to God, there are differences in their natures. This requires a deeper understanding of people’s natures.

… Some people covet money; when they see money and nice things, they desire to have it for themselves, and their desire to have it is exceptionally strong. The nature of these people is greedy and covetous of money. When they see something, they become greedy; they even dare spend and steal the church’s money, even 20,000 or 30,000 yuan; the more money it is, the more they dare to do it; they simply don’t fear God. This is a greedy nature. Some people spend 10 or 20 yuan and feel uneasy in their conscience. They hurry and kneel in God’s presence to pray, and with tears of remorse, they ask God to forgive them. People all have weaknesses; you can’t say that this is a person who covets money, it is merely a corrupt disposition being exposed. Some people love to judge others. They say: “This guy spent 3 or 5 yuan, and didn’t pray in God’s presence. Next time, he will spend 20 or 30 yuan; this guy is greedy.” Speaking this way is not right. People have corrupt dispositions and they certainly have normal weaknesses. Some weaknesses are also people’s corrupt dispositions, but there is a difference between a corrupt disposition and that kind of nature. You can’t lump it all together or arbitrarily judge people. Judging others is the most harmful thing for people. If you can’t distinguish or see things clearly, then don’t make baseless assertions so as to avoid hurting people. Speaking and doing things without understanding the truth is unprincipled and it doesn’t benefit others or yourself.

from “Understanding Commonalities and Differences in Human Nature” in Records of Christ’s Talks

The Man’s Fellowship:

All those who truly believe in God and love the truth are the subjects of God’s work of salvation, but the wicked and evildoers who do not love the truth and even hate the truth are preordained to be eliminated. We must have clear discernment and penetration into the people in these two camps, and when we do, we will know which side we should stand on, we will be able to find our own place, and we will no longer be confused. Our principles in the treatment of evildoers must be: First, not to support, or help evildoers out of a sense of love, not to hold hopes or illusions about them, and not to waste our good will on them; second, we must see clearly that the nature and essence of evildoers is to hate the truth, that they will never accept the truth, that they are the enemies of God’s chosen people, and that they are devils, nothing less, which will allow us to guard against them, reject them, and curse them. When we discover evildoers doing many wicked deeds and have solid evidence, we should expel them. This is the attitude God’s chosen people should have toward evildoers. Toward people who truly believe in God and love the truth, our attitude should be: First, we must lovingly support and help them, and if they commit transgressions or expose corruption, we must be tolerant and patient and continue to provide help; second, even if they are biased or make judgments against us, we must be tolerant and patient, and never suppress, exclude, or condemn them; practicing this way is in accord with God’s will. If God’s chosen people can all understand the truth and learn to treat others fairly, there will be no disorder in the church. The reason for disorder is that people lack discernment of right and wrong, cannot tell good and evil apart, lack principles, lack fairness, do not know how to treat good people with love, and do not know how to discern and reject evildoers and how to handle them, but instead follow rules blindly and mechanically, which brings no benefit to themselves or others, and only results in trouble and pain. From this, it is obvious that people’s lack of understanding of the truth is the root of disorder and pain.

from “How to Treat and Solve the Chaos in the Churches” in Selected Annals of the Work Arrangements of The Church of Almighty God

Those people who are classified as treacherous servants do not love the truth, are not willing to pursue the truth and do not show true obedience to God. In carrying out their duty, they do whatever they want. They treat people based on emotions and are not fair and reasonable. In serving God they resist God, follow the flesh, and do things without principles, even trading with God. Sometimes they may betray the truth and God and even work against the interest of God’s family, not maintaining God’s work in the slightest. This type of people is classified as treacherous servants, just like the treacherous court officials that nonbelievers speak of. Among these people, most are objects that can be saved and won. They must be treated with love and given the chance to repent. Some of them can completely become people who pursue the truth if they undergo much pruning, dealing, judgment and chastisement. Of course all treacherous servants are classified as false leaders and workers. However, some false leaders and workers are of good humanity and are completely able to repent and change. They must be treated with love and given another chance to exercise. Evil servants are all false leaders and antichrists who have a demonic nature. Of course evil servants are all classified as evil people. They possess the devil’s nature and essence and so these evil people can do all kinds of evil and brutally suppress and persecute God’s chosen people. They try hard to disturb and interrupt God’s work and go against God in everything, as if they are unfeeling. Their hearts are hard and stubborn. Is this not the enemy of God? Evil servants cannot be saved. Therefore, God’s family must expel any false leaders and antichrists of demonic nature. There is no room for reconciliation.

from “Only Through True Obedience to God’s Work Can One Enter the Reality of the Truth” in Selected Annals of the Work Arrangements of the Church of Almighty God

People with strange problems who cannot be seen through should be allocated to a group based on whether their humanity is good or bad and whether or not they love the truth. A person must not be expelled if it is not clear whether they have the work of evil spirits or are possessed by ghosts. Such individuals may only be put in Group B for meetings to be observed until things are clear.

from “Twenty Problems That Must Be Resolved When the Church’s Work Embarks on the Right Track” in Selected Annals of the Work Arrangements of the Church of Almighty God

What’s most important now is seeing into this person’s essence, if they are an evil person. This is key. But sometimes when you can’t tell if they’re an evil person or not, you can look at one thing. That is, whether or not they have hope of salvation, if they can be saved, if they are salvageable. If these two things can be understood it’s easier to deal with. And what if you can’t figure it out? If they’re not causing any disruption currently, then take more time to observe. If they are still capable of doing evil now, then isn’t the answer to these questions clear? The answer is clear, then, and that person is unsalvageable and should be expelled. If they’re not currently doing evil, then are they really an evil person, or not? Are they someone who is unsalvageable? If you can’t gain clarity on these questions, what should you do? Take some time for observation. If someone has just taken their very last breath, would you really dare to confirm with absolute certainty that they are dead? You wouldn’t. What if three to five minutes later they revive? And under some special circumstances, people who have been dead for half a day, or even a day have revived. If someone is really completely dead, then taking them to the mortuary or the crematorium is not a problem at all. So, if you cannot see into someone’s essence and they’re not being disruptive at the time, then wouldn’t you say that immediately expelling them isn’t appropriate? It’s not entirely correct and there’s no certainty in it. What if they begin to pursue the truth and repent after another year or two of faith? How would you explain that? You wouldn’t be able to. This is doing a person in, and that is awful. When I see this kind of thing and I can’t see it clearly, I observe them, and if I haven’t become clear after half a year, I observe them for one year. If I haven’t become clear after one year, I observe them for two years. While I’m watching as long as they don’t do any evil or disturb anything, whether they perform their duty or not is immaterial. What is this kind of approach called? Cautious; it’s avoiding taking the wrong action. When you’re doing something and you’re not fully clear on it, don’t act out blindly. Handle it cautiously. This is being mature and seasoned; it’s not acting blindly. If they’re not disrupting anything, what are you afraid of? It’s not that you can’t manage them. When they become disruptive and are thus exposed, it won’t be too late to deal with them.

from the fellowship from the above

Occasional transgressions do not represent one’s essence, but if there is no change despite repeated admonition and there are frequent transgressions, that is the issue with their essence. Whatever a person’s essence is, is what kind of person they are, how they are in their life, and what their consistent presentation is like. In relative terms, an honest person is honest more of the time, while a deceitful person is deceitful more of the time. That’s natural. Some people are relatively honest and upright, and this is based on their essence, but of course they certainly also show quite a lot of deceit and lies. If you discover just one transgression and then treat them as if they are that kind of person, that is not right. It’s easy to treat someone unjustly that way. If someone is admonished repeatedly but does not mend their ways, it shows that they are of that essence—then that is correct. Inflexible rules can’t be applied when dealing with issues. You must look at an issue’s essence based on its phenomena. Only by gaining an accurate understanding of the essence will you not misjudge someone. This is how people who understand the truth look at things. It is necessary to fully grasp this principle in things so that you do not mistreat someone, so that you don’t handle people or issues unfairly.
