997 When God Smites the Shepherd
Verse 1
In the future, everyone will walk the path
they should take, led by the Holy Spirit.
And who can care for others
when going through tribulation?
Who will be able to care?
Verse 2
Any one person has their own suffering,
and each has their own stature,
and that is a stature unique to themselves,
all unique to themselves.
Pre-chorus 1
Husbands cannot take care of wives,
and parents cannot take care of children;
none can care for anyone else.
It won’t be like now, when there’s mutual care,
and support is still possible.
And that will be a time of exposing
every type of person.
Chorus
Holding on to what one has is all that can be done,
and to walk the final stretch of the path,
and walk it, walk it well, oh, walk it well.
Verse 3
When God smites the shepherd,
the sheep of the flock will all be scattered.
Without a true leader, you will be divided,
not like now, when you can come together
as a congregation.
Pre-chorus 2
Those without the work of the Holy Spirit
will show their true colors:
husbands selling out wives,
wives selling out husbands,
children selling out parents,
and parents then persecuting their children.
You can’t predict the human heart.
Chorus
Holding on to what one has is all that can be done,
and to walk the final stretch of the path,
and walk it, walk it well, oh, walk it well.
Bridge
Right now, you’re short-sighted, can’t see this clearly.
Finding success through this step of work
is no easy task, no easy task.
Chorus
Holding on to what one has is all that can be done,
and to walk the final stretch of the path,
and walk it, walk it well, oh, walk it well.
