622 The Consequences of Passionate Service to God
Verse 1
Those who don’t revere God
nor have hearts that tremble in fear
may disobey without knowing
God’s administrative decrees.
Many serve God with passion,
yet don’t understand His decrees,
still less any inkling of the meaning of His words.
Verse 2
So with their good intentions,
they disrupt God’s management.
At worst they are thrown out,
cut off, and cast into hell.
These people work in God’s house
with ignorant good intentions,
and end by angering God’s disposition.
Chorus
If you’re not equipped with truth,
lacking real knowledge,
then your passionate service
will just bring God’s loathing.
Verse 3
People serve in the house of God
as they do officials and lords,
thinking the same will do with effortless ease.
They don’t know God’s disposition
is that of a lion and not a lamb.
Their first attempts to reach Him will fail,
for His heart’s unlike any man’s.
Chorus
If you’re not equipped with truth,
lacking real knowledge,
then your passionate service
will just bring God’s loathing.
Bridge
Only after understanding many truths
can you come to know God.
This knowledge is not made up
of words and doctrines,
but as treasure to bring you
into close confidence with God,
and as proof that He delights in you.
Chorus
If you’re not equipped with truth,
lacking real knowledge,
then your passionate service
will just bring God’s loathing.
Outro
By now you should know belief in God
is no mere study of theology!
