629 Have You Relinquished Your Religious Notions?
Verse 1
Today, too many people
believe in confused ways,
with too much curiosity
and desire for blessings.
Following God as a gesture,
little desire to seek life,
not seeking the true way,
no intent to gain life.
Pre-chorus
Your attitude is simply wanting
to see what will happen.
Chorus
Because you’ve not let go of your old notions,
no one among you is able to fully offer themselves up.
Even now you still worry about your own fate,
thoughts churning day and night, never letting go of it.
Verse 2
Do you think Pharisees to God
are “old men” in religion?
Aren’t you just that same
archetype in current times?
When God mentions those who measure
Him against the Bible,
do you think it’s only Bible experts
in religious circles?
Verse 3
When God speaks of those who again
nail Him to the cross,
do you think it’s only religious leaders?
Aren’t you great actors for this?
Do you think God’s words to counter
people’s notions are just to mock them?
Have you not also played
your part in these things?
Chorus
Because you’ve not let go of your old notions,
no one among you is able to fully offer themselves up.
Even now you still worry about your own fate,
thoughts churning day and night, never letting go of it.
Bridge
Are you sure your notions are few?
You’ve learned to be so clever.
You don’t talk or reveal feelings
on what you don’t understand,
but hearts of submission
and reverence aren’t within you.
You think studying and waiting
is the best practice today.
You’ve learned to be too clever.
Don’t you realize it’s just craftiness?
Do you think a moment of cunning
will free you from chastisement forever?
Chorus
Because you’ve not let go of your old notions,
no one among you is able to fully offer themselves up.
Even now you still worry about your own fate,
thoughts churning day and night, never letting go of it.
