Question 3: A lot of brothers and sisters believe Brother Lin was used by God who wrote many spiritual books and released many messages, and that all those words are the way of life, a provision of life. They believe his words have the enlightenment and illumination of the Holy Spirit, like the apostles’ epistles in the Bible, are in accord with the truth, and edify others. But why do you say that the words in accord with the truth said by men used by God are not the truth? What exactly is the truth?
Answer: This is a good question. Knowing what the truth is is so crucial. It’s the most crucial truth that every believer in the Lord has to understand. Some may wonder why words according with the truth from men used by God are not the truth. But before that, we need to know what the truth is. Throughout the ages, none has grasped the meaning of the truth. When the Lord Jesus came in the Age of Grace, He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). And yet, we still don’t understand the real meaning of the truth. Only when Almighty God, Christ of the last days, comes, is the mystery of the truth fully revealed to us all. Let’s see what Almighty God says about it.
“The truth comes from the world of man, yet the truth among man is passed on by Christ. It originates from Christ, that is, from God Himself, and is unattainable by man” (“Success or Failure Depends on the Path That Man Walks” in The Word Appears in the Flesh).
“… the truth is the most real of life’s aphorisms, and the highest of such aphorisms among all mankind. Because it is the requirement that God makes of man, and is the work personally done by God, thus it is called ‘life’s aphorism.’ It is not an aphorism summed up from something, nor is it a famous quote from a great figure; instead, it is the utterance to mankind from the Master of the heavens and earth and all things, and not some words summed up by man, but the inherent life of God. And so it is called ‘the highest of all life’s aphorisms’” (“Only Those Who Know God and His Work Can Satisfy God” in The Word Appears in the Flesh).
“When put in man’s language, it is man’s aphorism. Mankind can never fully experience the truth, and should live in accordance with it. One truth can sustain the existence of the whole of mankind for thousands of years. The truth is the life of God Himself, it represents the disposition of God Himself, the substance of God Himself, and all that within Him” (“Do You Know What Exactly the Truth Is?” in Christ’s Talks With Church Leaders and Workers).
From Almighty God’s words, we can see that the truth comes from God and from Christ’s expression. That’s to say, all the words that are expressed by God are the truth. This is because the truth is the substance of God’s life, is God’s disposition, what He has and is, and the reality of all positive things. It is immutable and exists forever. The words expressed by God have authority and are very powerful. They can purify, save and perfect man, and be the source of man’s eternal life. So then, all the words expressed by God are the truth. God’s work, His expressions, and His predestination are all the truths. All that God issues and asks man to keep, and all that He requires of man and asks them to live out, are truly all the reality of positive things. They’re all the truths. So, every word that God Himself expresses has the truth within it. God has expressed many truths during every stage of His work. And these truths are the precious life that God bestows upon man.
What God has expressed to us through His words and work during His two incarnations are all the truths. For example, in the words the Lord Jesus expressed during the Age of Grace, mankind sees God’s disposition, God’s love, and the substance of His holiness. All these are the precious truths for man to know God, like the Lord Jesus’ love toward all of mankind, His mercy, forbearance, and forgiveness, His requirement of mankind to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind, to love their neighbor as themselves, to be light and salt, and so on. All these are positive things and the truth, as well as the reality of life man should possess. When Christ of the last days, Almighty God, comes, He expresses all the truths that judge, purify and perfect man. All these truths are the reality of life that mankind should possess in the Age of Kingdom. Christ of the last days reveals to man God’s disposition of righteousness, majesty, wrath, and intolerance of offense. He discloses the mystery of God’s management plan of saving mankind, the mystery of God’s three stages of work, the inside truth and substance of every stage of His work, and the mystery of His incarnation. He reveals how God does the work of judgment in the last days, what the kingdom of Christ is, how God reveals the end of every kind of person, rewards the good and punishes the wicked. He reveals what God’s righteousness is, what His holiness is, the symbolic meaning of God’s disposition and His emotions of pleasure, anger, sorrow, and joy. He unveils righteousness and evilness, positive things and negative things. He shows the substance and fact of man’s corruption by Satan. He shows the way to fear God and shun evil, what the real human life is, how we can live out a meaningful life, etc. Almighty God has revealed all these truths and all the mysteries for man to know and see, so they can fear God, shun evil, obey God, and worship Him. The truth Almighty God expresses is the way of eternal life mankind should have. Those who accept all the truths expressed by God as their life, are people who gain the eternal life. Those who refuse to accept all the truths expressed by God, will head toward destruction. So then, all the truths expressed by Almighty God in the last days, are exactly God’s work of beginning an age and ending an age when the last days arrive. Men used by God are the ones God saves and perfects. Their duty in God’s work is to assist in the work of God and to lead God’s chosen people. So, their words that are in accordance with the truth, are a result of the Holy Spirit’s work. Though they are of benefit to man, they cannot be called truth or God’s word. The reason for this is that man’s words are of his own experiences and knowledge of the truth, which represent his own point of view and understanding, and inevitably involve human impurity. Besides, man’s experience and knowledge about the truth is limited. No matter how much man enters into the truth, it doesn’t mean he completely possesses the substance of the truth, or completely lives out the image of the truth. So then, even if he’s lived out some limited realities of the truth, it still stands that what he expresses is in line with the truth, but can never be considered on the same par with the truth. Only the words expressed by the incarnate God are the truth. That is to say, only God has the substance of truth. Only God is the truth. No matter how many years man has believed in God, he is always as a newborn baby before Him. He can never possibly live out the image of God. So, as for men used by God and men with the work of the Holy Spirit, their words can only be viewed in line with the truth, but not the truth itself. This is a fact that no one can deny. If one considers man’s words to be the truth, he’s not just resisting God. He’s blaspheming against Him! Now let’s find out what Almighty God says about this.
Almighty God says, “None of the words enlightened by the Holy Spirit can represent God’s words or the truth, nor are they the truth. They can only be considered as some knowledge of the truth, or some enlightenment from the Holy Spirit. … Everyone experiences the truth, but their circumstances differ, and what they gain from the same truth differs. And yet all their knowledge combined cannot fully clarify this one truth—this is how profound the truth is! Why do I say that which you gain and your knowledge, cannot replace the truth? If you share your knowledge with others, they would experience it in a few days of pondering. However, man cannot fully experience the truth in an entire lifetime, even all the people of the world working together cannot fully experience it. You can see how profound the truth is. The truth cannot be fully articulated with words. … You may have some experience or light in some aspect or part of a truth, but you cannot supply it to sustain one person for eternity. So that light of yours is not the truth; it is just what man can achieve. It is the experience man should have, the experience and knowledge due to him, a real part of the experience of the truth. Such light, enlightenment, and knowledge based on experience can never replace the truth. Even if all mankind has experienced the same truth, all their knowledge cannot substitute for that one truth. … Man’s life is forever man’s life. No matter how close your knowledge to the truth, to the meaning of God or to the requirements of God, it can never replace the truth” (“Do You Know What Exactly the Truth Is?” in Christ’s Talks With Church Leaders and Workers). After we understand what the truth means, we still need to know that it’s because of the Holy Spirit’s work and guidance that men used by God have some reality of the truth, can fellowship the ways of life entering and can bring people before God to make them know God and obey Him. And these are all the results of the work of the Holy Spirit. However, the religious leaders and figures without the work of the Holy Spirit have spread some specious theories, which are deceitful and going against the truth. When people don’t understand the truth, these words sound so reasonable. They seem to tally with the truth and are accepted. But after experiencing for a while, people will realize those words are empty and totally lack reality. They’re clearly man’s imaginations and cannot be put into practice. Some theories are even ridiculous and stand against the truth. Some quote Brother Lin a lot. His theories like “God became man that man may become God” and “God’s Spirit and man’s spirit are mingled as one” were accepted by many people then. But it didn’t take very long before they were found ridiculous and absurd. They’re impractical and invalid. If we accept God’s work and the nourishment of His word and understand some truths, we’ll be able to see that man’s word falls far short of the word of God and of the truth. Especially those religious figures and leaders of the church, their words are specious fallacies, which can only deceive and corrupt us. If man doesn’t accept God’s word or experience His work, he’ll never break free from the harmful deception of man. It’s so dangerous to worship and follow man.
