Yang Chen was once a preacher in a house church. At the age of 52, he accepted Almighty God's work of the last days. From then on, he earnestly pursued the truth and traveled around to preach the gospel. On November 14, 2004, Yang Chen and several other Christians were arrested by the police while discussing gospel work. The police tortured him in an attempt to force him to divulge church information and the whereabouts of church offerings. They pinned his legs under an iron plate and over 20 kg of iron chains for nearly nine hours, repeatedly smashed his ankles and the tops of his feet with beer bottles, and viciously kicked him in the head. Afterward, the police punched and kicked him, and ordered the inmates to take turns beating him, causing him to pass out several times and leaving him on the brink of death. After he had been detained for over a month, the police, afraid they would be held responsible if Yang Chen died in the detention house, had no choice but to release him. Before he left, the police warned him not to preach the gospel again. After returning to his hometown in Nanyang, Yang Chen worried that the local police would find out he had returned and arrest him again, so he had no choice but to go on the run as soon as his injuries improved slightly. He has remained in hiding throughout the 20-plus years since, constantly on the move. During this time, the CCP also canceled his household registration. That brutal torture left him with severe lasting effects: He frequently suffers from headaches and dizziness; a severe lumbar disc herniation causes him chronic pain; his legs are often cold; and his right ankle bone is severely deformed. Walking is extremely strenuous for him, and he has to rest after taking just a few steps. Now, Yang Chen is nearly 80 years old, but the CCP police still won't leave him be. They go to his house to search it from time to time, and have even arranged for people to keep watch, claiming they won't stop until they catch him.
